What Exactly Are The Different Degrees Of Hemorrhoids

As you might already have been aware -- hemorrhoids come in various shapes and sizes, and how severe they are also can differ significantly from case to case. Because of this, there's a technique to differentiate between the different degrees of hemorrhoids. By knowing and understanding how mild or severe hemorrhoids can be, you'll be able to appreciate just how much of a distinction there may be!

Before we go into that, there are a number of things that you have to be aware of though. Firstly, the various 'degrees' of hemorrhoids only apply to internal hemorrhoids (i.e. those that have formed inside the rectum). External hemorrhoids (as yet) do not actually have a specific system to assess how intense they are, and the difference should be quite clear.

More importantly however, there is one term that you have to find out about, and that's 'prolapsed hemorrhoids'.

In case you've heard of this before, good, but if you haven't then you should know that prolapsed hemorrhoids are basically just internal hemorrhoids that have expanded and been pushed out the anus itself. Because of this, they look like growths extending from the anus itself, plus they may bleed and be extremely painful at times.

Anyway, now that we've covered that, here are the four degrees of internal hemorrhoids:

1. Grade 1

As far as hemorrhoids go, these are the mildest and consist of hemorrhoids that don't prolapse. That means that they remain as internal hemorrhoids but might bleed when aggravated. Generally speaking, the majority of hemorrhoids are in this grade, and some may even pass completely unnoticed by those who suffer from it.

2. Grade 2

In contrast to Grade 1, Grade 2 hemorrhoids do prolapse, however they minimize in measurement very fast afterwards. So while you might have a prolapsed hemorrhoid for a while, it is going to shrink and reduce in size until it practically isn't there at all.

3. Grade 3

Next in line will be the kind of hemorrhoids that do prolapse, but do not reduce straight away. The truth is, they need to be 'manually' reduced, through various procedures, treatments, and other things. All said and done, this is certainly pesky as it is going to require you to deal with the hemorrhoid as quickly as possible.

4. Grade 4

Last, but definitely not least, is essentially the most severe variety of hemorrhoid -- and this is of the kind that cannot be manually reduced. Unfortunately, this leaves you with few options, and it's extremely difficult... to say the least.

Do you see how the completely different levels of hemorrhoids can differ greatly? Being aware of the various types of hemorrhoids that are out there, and improving your understanding in general will certainly be of help to you as you fight your very own hemorrhoids!
